I love Tallinn! People are so nice and English is spoken throughout...just as well as I can only manage “Thank you” in Estonian. As we are lucky enough to have a lovely shopping mall next to the hotel, I took myself off after breakfast for a visit there while Keith did whatever it is he does before we go off anywhere. I was able to find more blister plasters in the Apotheek then next door in “Flying Tiger”, more plain plasters and some gloves ( I forgot to pack them and it’s getting cold now): The gloves are specially made for use with smartphones so you don’t need to remove them to use the camera - very clever and very useful!
After some more browsing, I returned to collect Keith and we headed off to the Old Town. It is really lovely and while full of souvenir places, they are shops rather than stalls so do not detract from the old cobbled streets and churches. It was cold and wet at times - but that gave me an excuse to pop into the said souvenir shops on the eternal quest for fridge magnets for my collection ( note ...must by new magnetic memo board as the old one will be full after this trip!). Cat themes are everywhere on souvenirs...maybe it’s guilt from the time when the townsfolk threw live cats into a well to appease an evil spirit (😢😠) but the person I asked said it was because they had so many mice and rats at one time they welcomed cats to rid them of the rodents. Either way there are a lot of cat-decorated things to buy!
In spite of the grey weather, the colours of the houses in the Old Town are lovely and brighten up the greyest of days...

From the viewpoints, you get great views of both the old and new Tallinn...and Keith made a new friend when he found a piece of stale bread hiding in the bottom of a bag from a previous day

I, on the other hand, rather like the Town Hall Draak...

Thankfully at some time during our walk, my sore feet finally returned to some semblance or normality as the blisters subsided...so in spite of clocking up another 6 miles of perambulation in the course of today, things are definitely better and I’m ready for the next phase of this super holiday.
